Preliminary Studies on the Proppant Embedment in Baltic Basin Shale Rock

Abstract Proppant embedment is a serious issue that reduces fracture width and conductivity. The paper presents the results of experiments on phenomena shale rock from region Baltic Basin, which regarded as an unconventional gas deposit. A novel laboratory imaging procedure was implemented to proppant visualization. tests were performed for conditions corresponding average reservoir occurring in studied deposit formation. parameters characterizing damage surface faces by grains material, after application axial compressive stress two core samples with placed between, are presented. carried out pre-saturated fracturing fluid. obtained relatively low total effective penetration depth into walls (0.293 mm), high material hydraulic (87.9%), indicate proper selection fluid properties conditions. present range parameters, have not been widely described before. test presented article good method assessing vulnerability phenomenon.
